Cylindrical catalyst pellets cut from extruded stream - using ejector drum with stepping drive to feed stream correctly oriented to cutting blades

A machine for making cylindrical granules of pasty materials, esp. pellets of catalyst, is used on the discharge side of an extrudeer which produces a continuous stream of the material; the machine consists of a forming device, contg. an ejector drum having longitudinal blades to receive the extruded stream of pasty material between them; the shaft of this ejector drum is driven by a ratchet drive operated by an electro-magnet. A cutter for transversely slicing the extruded stream of material is mounted adjacent to the extruder and is driven by a geared drive so synchronised that it cuts the stream of material before this material is ejected by the next partial rotation of the drum. This arrangement enables the stream to be ejected from the ejector drum parallel to that drum, so that it is received correctly oriented by a neighbouring, parallel drum consisting of a set of parallel cutting discs, these discs cut the stream into correctly shaped cylindrical pellets.
