Agrium posts 3Q loss amid turnarounds

Canada-based fertilizer producer Agrium posted a third quarter loss of $251mn because of lower sales volumes amid multiple maintenance turnarounds at its nitrogen and potash plants. Agrium's nitrogen segment had limited supply during the quarter, with ammonia capacity utilization rates falling to 77pc as a result of maintenance downtime across several plants. Third quarter sales of nitrogen were down by 10pc year-on-year at 668,000t because of the reduced supply.
