China’s service sector drives power demand growth

Power demand growth in China’s service sector hit a newhigh in the first quarter, helping support the country’s totalpower consumption.The service sector consumed 250.4TWh of electricity inJanuary-March, up by 16.7pc from a year earlier, the ChinaElectricity Council (CEC) said. This was the biggest increasesince 2010. Demand from the information technology andrelated industries rose by 23.3pc over the period, the CECsaid, without giving a specific consumption figure.
