Vale’s Tubarao iron ore port closed due to pollution problems

On January 21, the Brazilian federal court ordered the suspension of activities at Port of Tubarao, owned by Vale, theworld’s largest iron ore exporter, due to pollution of the air and the sea. Tubarao port, one of the largest iron ore embarking ports in the world, is responsible for shipment a third of Vale’soutput. According to market insiders, estimated shipments losses attributed to the port closure account for about 1 milliont of iron ore per week. Tubarao’s docks loaded 82.5 million t of iron ore in the first nine months of 2015, Vale said.
