Russians ramp up rebar exports in April to prevent further rollback in domestic prices

Facing utterly weak domestic buying, around a half of Russian export-oriented companies have ramped up shipments to the foreign market in April primarily to maintain capacity utilization and to avoid further rollback in domestic prices. According to Metal Expert’s estimates, mills’ rebar exports will total 168,000 t in April, gaining 24% month-on-month, with EVRAZ ZSMK (65,000 t), NLMK-Kaluga (around 8,000 t), REMZ (17,000 t) planning to double theirs. NSMMZ is set to raise rebar exports even more – fivefold to 16,000 t.
