Oman’ Muscat Steel company to build EAF shop, reduce billet imports

Oman’s Muscat Steel aims to launch its own steelmaking operation to reduce billet imports. The company started hot trials at its new EAF shop with a capacity of 250,000 tpy. The start-up of the commercial production is scheduled for October. The main reason for the capacity expansion is “to reduce the company’s dependence on imports,” a source at the mill told Metal Expert, adding that they intend to produce 5,000 t of square billet by December.
