Saudi Arabia’s Arab Steel Company postpones expansion on uncertainty in billet market

Arab Steel Company, a subsidiary of Al-Tuwairqi Group, has postponed its investment programme to expand semis capacities. The mill probably prefers to estimate the situation in the square billet sector more carefully. As a result, the producer is still sourcing billets from the spot market. The company planned to start the second phase of the project, an installation of a combined CCM (900,000 tpy), after commissioning of the steelmaking complex equipped with a 1.9 million tpy EAF and a 1 million tpy billet casting machine at the end of last year.
