Domestication and cultivation of Orychophragmus violaceus as a new oil crop in China

摘要

Orychophragmus violaceus, a wild member of the Brassicaceae distributed mainly in China, has a linoleic acid content of 53.17% and an erucic acid content of 0.94%. Information is presented on the cultivation of this crop in China. It is suggested that in Chengdu O. violaceus should be sowed in mid-October, at a density of 180 000 plants/ha which reduces the incidence of Sclerotinia sclerotiorum and gives seed yields as high as 1320 kg/ha.
