BASF Coatings Japan plans to gear up this fiscal year started April 1 its promotion in the domestic market of the world's first ultraviolet-cured automotive-refinish coating system. It views the systeni as the next advanced technology after waterborne coating systems. The UV Series coating system, which already is in use in Europe, was developed by its German parent company BASF AG and is marketed under the R-M global brand. Previous auto-refinish coating systems require a separate drying process at each stage, such as the base coating, middle coating and clear coating, but the new system allows instantaneous curing of all the stages with UV exposure, except for nontransmitting, pigmented middle coats, thus improving workability and reducing work hours.
