Asahi Glass to Double Capacity for Fluororesin for Coatings

Asahi Glass plans to invest RMB1 bn (9.4 mn) to double the production capacity for its fluororesin for coatings by 2010, and to spur overseas market development for the product. As a first step, it will implement a 50% capacity expansion at its Chiba works in Japan this summer. The company commercialized Lumiflon, a fluororesin for use in coatings, in 1982 using its fluoro-chemical technology. The product's excellent properties, which include the high weatherability inherent in fluorine polymers, have been evaluated positively, and adoption has expanded in application areas such as large structures, bridges, high-rise buildings, and aircraft. Demand is growing at a rate of more than 10% annually.
