'Female Viagra' wins approval from FDA expert panel

A drug developed to increase female libido is a step closer lo being approved in the United Slates. Flibanserin, a 5-HT_(lA)-receplor agonist and 5-HT_(2A) receptor anlagonist, which has been dubbed the "female Viagra'', won approval on 4 June 2015 by a joint committee expert panel for the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The panel was assessing the drug's risks and benefits in the treatment of premenopausal women with hypoac live sexual desire disorder (HSDD). The panel agreed by 18 voles to 6 voles that the overall benefit/risk profile was acceptable and Ihe out come will form part of the ongoing FDA review of the drug.
