Protein aggregation: formulating a problem

Patients suffering from the chronic inflammatory disorders Crohn's disease and rheumatoid arthritis have benefited from next-generation biologies, such as tumour necrosis factor (TNF) inhibitors, since their development in the late 1990s. However, for around 30% of patients, these once powerful biologies are rendered less effective within a year of beginning treatment and, soon after, the inflammatory disorder flares up again.
