Is the assessment fit for purpose?

According to the General Pharmaceutical Council website, the pass rate for the registration assessment last summer (June 2012) was 94.6 per cent. The pass rate for the September 2012 examination was 58.2 per cent and, for the most recent one (June 2013) a low 77.8 per cent [see p134]. The feedback I have had from numerous trainees I have spoken to is that the nature of both the most recent assessments (September 2012 and July 2013) — those with low pass rates — was entirely different from those that preceded them.
