Contract applications reduced after the implementation of new regulations

THE number of new contract applications submitted to the now defunct primary care trusts in England dropped by almost 60 per cent between 1 September 2012 and 31 December 2012, when compared with the same period in 2011 (Table 1).There were 137 former PCTs that responded to a request under the Freedom of Information Act submitted in January 2013, which represented 91 per cent of PCTs in England at that time. These figures did not include applications made under the exemptions to the 2005 regulations, and thus did not include 100-hour pharmacy applications.
