EMA gains power to review medicines taken off market with no explanation

MEDICINES withdrawn from the market without any explanation can now be referred for a safety assessment by the European Medicines Agency. The medicines regulator is able to activate referral procedures — a scientific assessment to resolve concerns such as safety issues — when marketing authorisation holders do not explain the reasons behind certain decisions.
