Lisdexamfetamine now available for children with unresponsive ADHD

CHILDREN with attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) who have not responded to methylphenidate have a new treatment option, in the form of lisdexamfetamine dimesylate. Launched by Shire under the brand name Elvanse, lisdexamfetamine is a central nervous system stimulant that can be taken by children aged six years and older as part of a comprehensive ADHD treatment programme. It comes in the form of capsules, which should be taken in the morning, either swallowed whole or the contents dissolved in a glass of water.
