IS somewhat ironic that the week the All-Party Pharmacy Group published its long-awaited report and recommendations into medicines shortages that sterling reached a three-year high against the euro. The exchange rate is one major factor that is beyond the collective power and influence of all parties interested in preventing medicines shortages impacting on pharmacy and patient care. The Department of Health, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry and individual pharmaceutical companies, the APPG itself and other professional organisations and associations cannot influence currency traders.
