Latest findings in Avastin-Lucentis AMD trial inconclusive

INTERIM findings from a trial comparing ranibizumab and bevacizumab for the treatment of wet, age-related macular degeneration are inconclusive {Ophthalmology, online 10 May 2012). The IVAN noninferiority trial included 610 patients with untreated neovascular AMD recruited from 23 UK hospitals. Patients were randomly assigned to receive ranibizumab (Lucentis; Novartis) 0.5mg or bevacizumab (Avastin; Roche) 1.25mg.
