KEVIN BARRON, chairman of the All-Party Pharmacy Group, has written to health secretary Andrew Lansley calling for a halt to further 100-hour pharmacy openings, adding to the mounting calls for a moratorium on the contentious exemption to the pharmacy market entry test. During a recent visitto a Rotherham pharmacy, Mr Barron learnt of the major concerns held by some pharmacists in his constituency over the fact that large multiples and GP surgeries have submitted applications to open 100-hour pharmacies close to existing pharmacies. Mr Barron told participants at the 2012 Sigma Pharmaceutical conference, held this week in Phuket, Thailand, that he wrote to Mr Lansley earlier this month urging him to act quickly and put a moratorium on the exemption, which he says is going to create a big problem for the profession.
