Give lifestyle advice to arterial disease patients

PATIENTS with peripheral arterial disease should be given advice on the secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, including support with smoking cessation and healthy eating, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence says. A guideline on the diagnosis and management of lower limb peripheral arterial disease, published last week by NICE, advises that patients be given information about leading a healthy lifestyle. They should also be offered advice on the prevention, diagnosis and management of diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as support with lipid modification, and statin and antiplatelet therapy.
