THERE'S NO denying that the focus at Bayer CropScience's cotton brands - FiberMax and Stoneville - is on bringing new products to the market. Representatives say they are always on the lookout for new traits and seed characteristics to stay in front of both Mother Nature and rival seed companies. "When we talk about bringing new varieties forward, we're talking about fiber quality, genetic capability, yield and trait technology - everything a farmer needs," says Jeff Brehmer, U.S. marketing manager for FiberMax and Stoneville cotton. "It's not about simply replacing the products that were there for the sake of it. We don't bring new varieties to the market unless they are exponentially better than what is already on the market."
