A new pharmacy structure is needed to engage and influence commissioners

The NHS landscape is changing in an unprecedented manner and at breakneck speed. The clinical and financial risks associated with medicines are large and well recognised and have led to the development of specialist pharmacy practice, initially within the hospital sector and over the past 15 years within the community.Within the hospital sector, pharmacy has successfully developed a career structure and processes and support for workforce development. Consequently pharmacy practitioners have been integrated into chnical teams and are highly valued by doctors and nurses.
