The School of Pharmacy, University of London, has announced it will merge with University College London on 1 January 2012. The school's governing body has decided that the long-term future of the school is best secured through a merger with UCL. Its members voted 12 for and 8 against the merger. The announcement was made after a lengthy consultation process and despite a campaign by the University and College Union (UCU) and Unite to retain the school's independence (PJ, 16 October 2010, p425).
