Dasatinib outdoes imatinib for CML

Patients newly diagnosed with chronic myeloid leukaemia (CML) have greater improvements in their cytogenetic and molecular responses after one year of treatment with dasatinib compared with the standard first-line therapy, imatinib. Findings from the phase III study presented at this year's American Society of Clinical Oncology meeting, held in Chicago this week (4-8 June 2010), are particularly significant because of the increasing number of patients developing imatinib resistance, say the authors of the research.
