NPSA issues alert on gentamicin use in neonates

Baby units should draw up new protocols for prescribing and administering intravenous gentamicin, says the National Patient Safety Agency in its latest patient safety alert. It is urging all NHS organisations with neonatal services in England and Wales to put such documents in place after 507 patient safety incidents involving the drug were reported.
