Doubt over inflammatory control with insulin or metformin

Treatment with insulin or metformin does not reduce inflammatory biomarkers, such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), in patients with recent onset type-2 diabetes, according to research published in JAMA (2009;302:1186). The lack of modification of inflammatory markers over 14 weeks was despite improved glycaemic control with these agents.
