The Government's new points based system is the biggest shake up in immigration in Britain for 45 years. It is intended to simplify the immigration process and attract only appropriately skilled migrants who can boost Britain's economy.The system was introduced on 29 February 2008 and condensed more than 80 previous access routes into a framework of five tiers.
