It is disappointing that, in his somewhat dismissive response to my letter (PJ, 28 November 2009, p592),Bob Nicholls, chairman designate of the General Pharmaceutical Council, substitutes the bandying of semantics ("light-touch/right-touch") for a debate on the real issue: is it justified, given that we are in the middle of the separation of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, to debate the replacement of the recently minted code of ethics at this juncture? What exacdy is the problem with the current code that the GPhC seeks to fix?
