COPD treatment slows disease progression

Treatment with salmeterol plus fluticasone propionate, or either component alone, reduces the rate of decline of forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1) in patients with moderate-to-severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), thus slowing disease progression, a study indicates (American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine 2008;178:332).
