Many new drugs and devices based on a well-described match of treatments-to-disease mechanisms have kept the clinical spotlight on unstable angina and the other acute coronary syndromes for many years. Stable angina, a chronic coronary syndrome, has received much less attention despite being the most frequent initial presentation of coronary heart disease. According to the Rose questionnaire, angina pectoris is a very prevalent chronic condition that affects 5-7% of men and 6-7% of women. This condition is unusual among manifestations of coronary heart disease by being more common in women.
