In April, 2008, the Australian Government brought the excise duty on premixed spirits in line with the excise on unmixed spirits-a 70% increase from AUDollars 39.36/L to Dollars 66.67/L This action has raised the question as to whether such a one-off manipulation of tax can reasonably be expected to improve public-health outcomes related to alcohol consumption.
