Atrophy of the prostate on needle biopsy and false-positive diagnosis of malignancy.

摘要

Histopathological false-positive diagnosis of malignancy on prostate needle biopsy occurs in about 1% of cases. There are a number of benign histological mimickers of adenocarcinoma of the prostate. The benign entities most likely to be misdiagnosed as carcinoma in prostate needle biopsy tissue include atrophy, adenosis (atypical adenomatous hyperpla-sia) and crowded benign glands.
