The main subjects of the critique1 are the following: (1) the elimination of a background of interactions in the calculation of the corrected G_(ij); (2) the lack of meaning of eq 2.9; (3) and the lack of meaning of the function G_(ij)- G_(ij)~(id), as a result of the example in section 3. These three points are here discussed and confuted with the aid of G_(ij)-related quantities calculated for actual mixtures purposely chosen. Table 1 shows the mixtures considered, their relevant thermodynamic properties, as well as the quantities calculated. Mixtures 1-6 have G~E approx= 0 and V~E approx= 0 but have different values of the component volume difference, DELTA V = V_B - V_A. In particular, the systems in couples 1, 2 and 3, 4 have the same DELTA V value but are different as to functional groups and their polarity. In systems 5 and 6, DELTA V is still larger, whereas mixture 7 represents a typical nonideal system.
