Compressibility of aqueous solutions of nonelectrolytes:An equilibrium model

In this paper the parabolic-shaped dependences of compressibility Ks of a nonelectrolyte in watersolvent on concentration are explained and described semiquantitatively in terms of hydrateformation equilibrium reaction. It was demonstrated that only two fitted parameters, the hydrationnumber n_hand the formation constant of hydrateK,are sufficient to reproduce satisfactorily theexperimental data, in particular the characteristic minimums of K_s versus composition observed atlow contents of solutes.
