Synthetic studies of analogues of cytidine monophosphate(CMP)-sialic acid as transition state mimics for sialylation are reported,applying selective monohydrolysis of a symmetric diester and a subsequent buffer-mediated regio-and stereospecific rearrangement we reported earlier.
