Two miners killed at Patriot's Brody No. 1

The immediate future of Patriot Coal's Brody No. 1 high-vol met mine could be in doubt after two miners were killed Monday in a roof collapse. The Boone County, WV, mine, which has produced about 1.5 million tons of B-plus type met coal in the past, was on a pace to produce 800,000 tons to 900,000 tons in 2014. The miners were retreat mining an area when, according to MSHA, they were killed by "a severe coal burst." According to industry sources it's unclear when the mine, which employs 270, will reopen.
