Fixture activity for shipments into India remained weak, nonetheless freight rates on coal carrying routes into the South Asian nation found strength in Chinese demand for imported coal. Platts assessed the Panamax coal freight rates from South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal to Paradip port on India’s east coast at $18.30/mt and to Mundra on the west coast of India at $17.80/mt Tuesday, each up 10 cents from Monday.
