Taiwan’s China Steel loses stake in Queensland metallurgical coal mine

Melbourne — Taiwan’s China Steel Corp. or CSC has lost its grip on 10% of a metallurgical coal deposit in the Australian state of Queensland after majority owner Peabody Energy exercised its right to own the entire asset. The Taiwanese steelmaker said Monday that it would no longer be investing $102 million on a stake in the deposit, but would continue to hunt for stakes in coal projects in Australia and elsewhere.
