Consistent domestic demand, coupled with production issues, was keeping the US polypropylene market tight and spot prices strong, sources said this week. Meanwhile, in the contract market, participants were operating without a contract for September. Producers and buyers continued to look for direction from the monomer polymer-grade propylene market, which as of Wednesday had failed to reach a settlement for its September contracts. Talk in that market remained centered around expectations of a rollover, with the possibility of a 1-2 cent/lb increase in the settlement, although at least two olefins traders suggested that a two-month settlement spanning through October could be seen.
