Singapore-With China opening up its oil market and top global suppliers lining up to sell to independent refiners, oil giant Saudi Aramco is changing its marketing strategy-shedding its conservative image to ensure that it can grab a piece of the new business opportunity in Asia. Aramco has been cautious about selling to China’s independent refiners since Beijing opened up the floodgates last year. But as the refiners snapped up huge volumes of crude from Russia to Venezuela, the Aramco management clearly had a re-think of its strategy and was now open to selling even to buyers not having a strong track record of regular purchases.
