Clouds still linger for BP after spill deal

London-Investors have largely applauded BP’s surprise early settlement of most, but not all, of the outstanding claims over its 2010 US Gulf of Mexico oil spill. More than three and a half years after BP’s chief executive Bob Dudley proclaimed the oil major had “turned a corner” on the industry-defining disaster, BP’s shares jumped 5% last Thursday as the $18.7 billion US deal lifted the biggest lingering clouds over its final liabilities for the spill.
