China eyes bigger role in foreign infrastructure projects

Singapore—China is increasing its influence over energy infrastructure projects outside of the country, using its financial clout to bring about quicker implementation of key energy projects in countries such as Iraq and Uganda. In Iraq, China’s state-owned CNPC has started work on a new crude export pipeline to link the Halfaya and Burzugan fields to the country’s existing export infrastructure. CNPC said it started welding operations at the project last week and the pipeline is expected to be completed by end April next year.
