Istanbul—After a period of unexpected twistsin the saga of which project will pipe Caspiannatural gas to Europe, Turkey’s energy ministerTaner Yildiz February 28 made reference to anidea that many have seen coming in recentweeks—to merge the planned Azerbaijan-Turkeygas line (TANAP) into a new, shorter version ofthe long-planned Nabucco pipeline project.TANAP was a late entry into the race topump gas in the first place, from the secondphase of Azerbaijan’s giant offshore ShahDeniz field, to Europe.
