Calgary—Opening up new markets for Alberta’s bitumen and natural gas will be a priority for the provincial government, not only from an energy security perspective but “more so” for commercial reasons, newly appointed energy minister, Ken Hughes, told Platts May 25. “We are rapidly building a world class hydrocarbon asset in Alberta and my priority will be to open up new markets in Asia and elsewhere in Canada,” said Hughes in a phone interview from Edmonton. “We cannot just depend on a single market.”
