Lagos-Nigerian senior oil workers' union Pengassan said January 11 it was preparing to shut down oil production in the country fol- lowing the failure of the Abuja government to meet worker demands for a reversal of the decision to abolish fuel subsidies. As a general strike entered its third day, Nigeria's oil terminals were still working as normal and crude oil loadings remained unaf- fected, but Pengassan said it has now told production sites to prepare for shutdown.
