Japan set to lose 14% of refining capacity

Tokyo—Even though Japan is expected to lose a combined 645,000 b/d, or 14%, of its installed refining capacity by July 25 due to unplanned shutdowns, local refiners are not under immediate pressure to hike oil products imports because of ample domestic supplies, industry sources said July 20. Japan will be hit by the capacity outage in the midst of the country’s summer oil demand season.
