Washington—Shell’s two Alaska-bound drillingrigs, along with associated support vessels,are departing Seattle, Washington, for DutchHarbor, Alaska, the company said June 27.The departure comes two days after thecompany tested its capping stack in PugetSound under supervision of the US Bureau ofSafety and Environmental Enforcement.Shell deployed its capping stack June 25from the icebreaker Fennica. In the two-hourtest, Shell lowered the stack into 200 feetof water—deeper than any of the plannedshallow-water wells planned to be drilled inAlaska’s Chukchi and Beaufort Seas.
