US oil output boosted by Bakken in April

Houston—US oil production has averaged more than 6 million b/d for the first four months of 2012, marking the first time above that level since 1998 when the country produced an average of 6.252 million b/d. The American Petroleum Institute cited achievement of that milestone May 18 in releasing its statistical report for April, noting that April’s average crude oil output increased 6.6% from last year to 5.963 million b/d as the average for 2012 jumped 8% to 6.024 million b/d.
