Greece turns to trading houses for oil supply

London—Cash-strapped Greece has increasingly turned to large commodity houses to secure the supply of sour crude barrels after Athens began looking to replace its Iranian crude supplies in April, according to traders. Greek refiner Hellenic Petroleum halted imports from Iran because of difficulties in routing payment to Tehran and finding vessels willing to lift the oil. Since then, it has sought more alternative supplies from other countries, including Russia, Iraq and Libya.
