Murphy Oil expects Malaysian FLNG decision in 2013

Sydney—US-based Murphy Oil expects to make a final investment decision on a floating LNG project offshore Malaysia in 2013, President and CEO David Wood said May 3. In its results for the quarter ended March 31, Murphy said it had made two more gas discoveries this year in Malaysia’s offshore block H, which have the potential to be combined with nearby discoveries for a future FLNG project. Murphy announced a significant gas discovery at the Rotan well in block H offshore Sabah in early 2007, and followed up with the Biris discovery in early 2008. In March 2008, the company renewed its contract for Block H at a 60% interest, although it retained its original stake of 80% in the two existing gas discoveries.
